Fr. Adam Potter grew up in Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania, with his parents and five younger siblings. After graduating from high school in 2006, he attended Penn State University, Behrend campus, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics in 2010.
Following his undergraduate studies, he entered formation for the priesthood with the Diocese of Pittsburgh. He went on to earn a Master’s degree in Philosophy from Duquesne University. Bishop David Zubik then sent him to Rome to continue his theological studies. There, Fr. Adam earned a Bachelor of Sacred Theology degree from the Pontifical Gregorian University, as well as a Licentiate in Studies on Marriage and Family from the Pontifical John Paul II Institute.
Fr. Adam was ordained to the priesthood on June 25, 2016, at St. Paul Cathedral by Bishop Zubik. He had five parish assignments prior to coming to St. Mary Magdalene:
Word of God and Madonna Del Castello in Rankin and Swissvale (2016-2017)
St. Benedict the Abbot, St. Francis of Assisi, and St. Isaac Jogues in Peters Township, Finleyville and Elrama (2017-2018)
Fr. Adam also served as chaplain to Oakland Catholic and Serra Catholic high schools. He is currently the chaplain to the Courage Chapter in Pittsburgh.
All of these assignments, pastors, parishioners, staff and students have offered incredible experiences and opportunities for Fr. Adam to grow in the knowledge and love of God. Further, the love, support, patience, understanding and friendship that have been offered have been blessings beyond measure. May God forever be praised for the gift of priesthood and for all of the years Fr. Adam has been able to share in the love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus!
