“When I was hungry, you gave me to eat ...” Matthew 25
Social Ministries & Community Outreach at Saint Mary Magdalene Parish invites parishioners into cooperative efforts to minister to and advocate for Christ in need: the hungry, the stranger, the elderly, those who are poor – economically, socially, and spiritually. The goal of our Social Ministries is to model discipleship to Jesus and the principles of Catholic Teaching: within the parish, in our charitable outreach to neighbors in need, and as a voice for Justice and Peace – advocating and acting on behalf of and with the poor, marginalized and oppressed locally and around the world.
Our Social Ministries & Community Outreach Committee allows parishioners to engage in the fulfillment of this vision. For more information, please reach out to the Ministry Center at 412-241-1309.Make a One-Time Gift or Recurring Donation Online

The Ministry Center runs three Parish Food Pantries: One in Homewood-Brushton (1st Wednesday of every month), Wilkinsburg (3rd Saturday of each month), and a senior citizen high-rise in Lincoln-Lemington (second Thursday of every month). Those in need receive an abundant offering of meat, dairy, canned goods & staples, produce, paper products, and other necessities.
They also participate in the Senior Food Boxes program of Allegheny County for those who qualify.
The food pantries work closely with Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. Veronica Snyder coordinates the Homewood-Brushton and Lincoln-Lemington efforts. Evelyn Christie manages the Wilkinsburg program.
St. Mary Magdalene Social Ministry Center is staffed daily and is open to parishioners and neighbors in need. Services range from providing a listening ear and emotional support to providing direct assistance and referrals to appropriate agencies when necessary. Through parish contributions and outside grants, some funds are available to help with housing and utility needs. Staff from the Center collaborate with St. Vincent de Paul Society in meeting the needs of neighbors.
Mary’s Child is a family support program that provides critically needed items to new and expectant mothers and fathers, parents, grandparents and other caregivers of infants, toddlers and school age children who are experiencing financial hardships during these challenging times. More importantly, staff provide encouragement, parenting advice, and other resources to the parents/guardians.
Stone Soup Garden is a community garden tended by parishioners and community members to serve the parish and provide vegetables for those coming to our food pantries. Michael Drohan with his green thumb leads this effort.
